O'Neil She was still in high school times when she took part in the auditions, auditioned for Canadian Idol's 3rd season within the early months of 2005. She made it to the top hundred round after the judges praised her singing ability. O'Neil won high praises from the jury. However, she was a major loser in the Top 10 Week as well as the Top 9 Week of the Finals. The judges were shocked, and they recommended that the public choose Melissa who was one of the contestants with the greatest vocal abilities. With consistently excellent performances throughout the contest, O'Neil never again finished in the bottom three. O'Neil and Rex Goudie and Werner delivered two spectacular performances in September of 2005. Werner reportedly said that the headlines would state that O'Neil had defeated Goudie and became the 3rd Canadian Idol. She was also the first female and the youngest winner in time of the show. O'Neil received a rousing ovation from Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin for winning Canadian Idol.
